Last Thursday, the House passed HR 728 ("Mortgage Reform and Anti-Predatory Lending Act"). This bill is designed to better-regulate the mortgage industry, to prevent the sort of reckless lending practices that contributed to the recent housing bubble and its collapse (i.e., the economic crisis we're currently facing). The bill passed by a 300-114 margin (72%-28%), so it was pretty popular -- that is, a pretty strong majority thought it was a good idea.
But (again) not John Carter. He voted against it. Apparently, Carter thinks the lending practices that helped to get us into this financial mess are perfectly acceptable.
I wonder if everyone who has lost a job -- or everyone whose home value has taken a nosedive -- would agree. Somehow I doubt it.
Vote ABC (Anyone-But-Carter) in 2010.
