It seems our Rep. Carter is going off the deep end over the recent Homeland Security report that named right-wing radicals as a possible threat to security. Here's what Carter had to say:
Singling out political opponents for working against the ruling party is precisely the tactic of every tyrannical government from Red China to Venezuela. Now, normally I would try to be measured in my response. But how stupid can you get.
Here's the thing: this report was ordered by the Bush administration. And just a couple months ago (January), HS released a report that expressed concern about left-wing groups. Moreover, some of the right-wing nuttery that's been going around lately (have you seen the Glenn Beck crowd?) really is cause for concern.
So...the only reason for Carter to say what he's saying is (a) he's ignorant and uninformed about current events surrounding this report (see above); or (b) he's throwing in with the right-wing nuts and trying to make "backlash" hay out of the HS report. I'm thinking it's (b) -- after all, Carter's statement includes the ever-popular right-wing comparison of Obama's administration to Communists and socialists.
This is not the guy I want representing me in Congress.
