A lot of Texas families are likely to be in need of some assistance over the next year or two, while the economy recovers. That means more families in need of unemployment, Medicaid, child support, student loans, etc.
But John Carter will not help you. In 2006, Carter cast a key vote on H RES 653. The bill cut over $40 billion from these programs over the next five years -- which means it's still impacting us today, when we could really use that money. The bill barely passed, 216-214, on the strength of the GOP majority in the House, and with the help of John Carter's vote. (It barely passed the Senate, too, with Dick Cheney's tie-breaking vote.)
Now, thanks to Carter and the Republicans, millions of people who are struggling to make ends meet have it just a little bit harder....
